Verizon to be first to field-test crazy-fast 5G wireless

How fast is 5G? Verizon’s tests have shown a connection speed that is 30 to 50 times faster than our current 4G network, or higher speeds than what Google Fiber offers through a direct physical connection into the home, Gurnani said.

The future is wireless access to the internet rather than being directly plugged in. As computing becomes more mobile, the idea of plugging into the internet seems silly. If anything, the most logical scenario would be 5G or 6G wireless internet access and an antenna on the roof that brings the signal inside to your modem or router, where it can then be converted to standard Wi-Fi for all the devices in your house. It’s a much better solution, and much cheaper, than trying to run physical cables to every single house in a very large country with a lot of people living in rural areas.

Maybe there’s life in those rabbit ears yet.

How Often Should You Upgrade Your iPhone? An Experiment

most of the time, the most cost-effective way to upgrade your phone is to sell your old one, and use that money to (partially) pay for the new one. But I always wondered whether it was more cost effective to sell your old phone early, while it still had value, or run it into the ground. Which saves you more money in the long run?

If you’re looking for a good excuse to buy a new iPhone when it’s announced today, this is a great one.

It’s worth noting that used iPhones (or Apple products in general) will sell for a lot more money than anything else. It’s something that nobody factors into the cost of Apple products – sure, they often cost more up-front, but you can also sell them for a lot more even a few years later, which helps offset the cost.
