Transmission Media refers to the physical and non-physical paths used to carry a communications signal from one system to another. Transmission Media can be broken down into two categories:

  • Guided Media (Wired or Bounded): twisted-pair cables, coaxial cables, and fiber-optic cables
  • Unguided Media (Wireless or Unbounded): radio waves, microwaves, and infrared
