A Sniffer (a.k.a. Packet Analyzer and Packet Sniffer) is a program and/or hardware device that is capable of monitoring/intercepting data traveling over a network. Sniffers can be used as a legitimate network management tool or for the purpose of stealing any important, valuable information that happens to be traveling over the network while it is hooked into it.
