SpongeBob SquarePants was originally going to be named SpongeBoy, but the show creators discovered that SpongeBoy was a trademarked mop brand. | |
| How Snoopy Killed Peanuts Because as legendary as Peanuts is, it was only 'great' for a 15-20 year period — from about the mid-50s to the early 70s. And even by the 70s, there was a slow, but definite drop-off in quality. By the 80s, with the exception of a few notable storylines, the strip was essentially dead. The 90s was just more of the same. And unfortunately, much of the blame for this can be traced back to Snoopy, the most beloved of Schulz's creations. Very interesting take on the role of Snoopy. As somebody who grew up in the 80s, Snoopy was my favorite character. The fantasy worlds that he lived in where he was a famous pilot or a writer were the type of thing that a kid imagines and wants to be when they grow up. As an adult, I can now understand the appeal of the original storylines. Minimum-wage offensive could speed arrival of robot-powered restaurants The industry could be ready for another jolt as a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour nears in the District and as other campaigns to boost wages gain traction around the country. About 30 percent of the restaurant industry's costs come from salaries, so burger-flipping robots — or at least super-fast ovens that expedite the process — become that much more cost-competitive if the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is doubled. Judging from the lousy service you’ll receive at most fast-food restaurants in the DC area, customers will welcome having to deal with a touchscreen instead of a human. Bad news about Google’s Android Stagefright patch Google employs a tremendously large security staff, so much so that many members dedicate time to audit other vendor's software and hold them accountable to provide a code fix within a deadline period. If Google cannot demonstrate the ability to successfully remedy a disclosed vulnerability affecting their own customers then what hope do the rest of us have? Looks like the current patch for Android Stagefright doesn’t fully solve the issue. So they will probably be pushing out yet another patch. If you are using Android and aren’t fully caught up, be sure to read our article on how to protect yourself. | |
