Best Smarthome Devices - What Apps Actually Run on Linux?

September 20, 2018

The reviews are in for the new iPhone XS and XS Max, and so far they all say roughly the same thing: they are slightly better than last year's iPhone X, but you'll probably want to wait for the iPhone XR, coming next month, since it gives you most of the same features in a much cheaper phone.

The upcoming iPhone XR has the same edge-to-edge screen just using LCD instead of OLED, FaceID, the same CPU, and is generally very similar to the XS, but has one huge advantage: a lot more battery life.

How did they manage that? They shoved more battery into the phone, but the big thing is that the resolution is 1792×828 on the XR vs 2436×1125 on the XS and XS Max. Pushing a ton of extra pixels all the time decreases battery life. This isn't to say the resolution on the XR is bad, of course—it's the same PPI as the iPhone 8. Which, incidentally, is still for sale and is probably the best deal of all.
