Doping

Doping is the process of adding elements (dopants) such as arsenic, antimony, boron, bismuth, or phosphorous to semiconductor materials during the manufacturing process. These elements help increase a semiconductor’s conductivity and fall into two types:

  • N-Type – The current is conducted by an excess of free electrons
  • P-Type – The current is conducted by a lack of electrons (vacancies)
