Likejacking | |
Likejacking is a variation of clickjacking perpetrated on Facebook via exploitation of the “Like” button. Scammers will create a post with a compelling image, video, or discount deal via a fake or hijacked account with the intention of getting others to “like” the post. Once people start “liking” the post, the “malicious post” will either be shared to the user’s personal feed (and their friends’ feeds) or the user will be guided through a series of pages designed to gather personal information (i.e. surveys, membership applications, etc.). The scammer may gather the information with the intention of hijacking the user’s account or receive payment for the survey the user has just been tricked into completing. | |
