A Motherboard Tattoo is a unique, vendor-defined system identification code stored in a computer’s BIOS that identifies the motherboard and the computer/system in which it is installed.

The Motherboard Tattoo serves as an anti-piracy measure and ensures that recovery media provided for, or created by that computer can only be used to restore the operating system on that particular computer.
