Enterprise Archive File

An Enterprise Archive File (a.k.a. EAR) is a Java archive (JAR) file format used by Java EE to package one or more modules into a single archive file to ensure simultaneous and coherent deployment of the modules to application servers.

Enterprise Archive Files also contain XML (Extensible Markup Language) files known as deployment descriptors that describe how to deploy the modules.
