Graylisting

Graylisting (also spelled Greylisting) is a spam prevention method where incoming mail is rejected by the receiving server the first time it is received (based on the sender’s IP address and additional routing information).

Graylisting works on the premise that a legitimate sending server will receive the rejection notice and send the message out again, whereas a spam producing server will most likely not bother trying again.
