Egress Filtering is a network security measure where all outbound traffic (data) is monitored, filtered, and/or restricted via a firewall for any packets that fail to meet security requirements for the organization.

Some examples of what Egress Filtering can block are: unauthorized traffic, destructive traffic (malware, unauthorized e-mail messages, and/or undesirable website requests), and the distribution of copyrighted material (such as movies and music).
