Stateful Inspection (a.k.a. Dynamic Packet Filtering) is a firewall technology that monitors the state of active connections to ensure that all inbound packets are actually the result of outbound requests.

Inbound packets that are not the result of outbound requests are prevented from coming through the firewall by Stateful Inspection.
